Anglesey
Anglesey, in Welsh Ynys Môn and in Latin Mona, is the largest island off Wales, separated from the mainland by the Menai Strait. A centre of the druids, it was attacked by the Romans in 60 CE and conquered by Agricola in 77, and its fertile farmland later made it the granary and royal heartland of the kingdom of Gwynedd. Edward I built Beaumaris Castle there after his conquest of Wales.
