Battle of Nuʻuanu

1795 · 18th century

The Battle of Nuʻuanu was fought on Oʻahu in May 1795, when Kamehameha I, armed with Western guns and advisers, defeated Kalanikūpule, ruler of Oʻahu and Maui. Many defenders were driven over the cliffs of the Nuʻuanu Pali. The victory brought Oʻahu under Kamehameha's rule and was decisive in the unification of the Kingdom of Hawaii.
