Battle of Oenophyta

457 BCE · 5th century BCE · Part of the First Peloponnesian War

The Battle of Oenophyta was fought in Boeotia in 457 BCE, about two months after the Spartan victory at Tanagra. An Athenian army under Myronides defeated the Boeotians, and Athens then dominated Boeotia, Phocis and Opuntian Locris, supporting friendly regimes in the Boeotian cities. Athenian control lasted until the defeat at the Battle of Coronea in 447 BCE.
