Athens

Athens is a city in Greece that was a leading city-state of the classical era. It played a central role in resisting the Achaemenid Empire during the Persian Wars, including the victory at Marathon in 490 BCE. After the closure of the Neoplatonist school in Athens in the sixth century, some of its philosophers took refuge at the court of the Sasanian king Khosrow I.
