Khosrow I

r. 531–579 CE · 6th century · Also known as Anushirvan

Khosrow I, also known as Anushirvan, was a Sasanian king who reigned in the sixth century CE and is remembered as one of the dynasty's greatest rulers. He reformed taxation and the army, strengthening central control over the Sasanian Empire. His reign was also noted for patronage of learning and for wars against the Byzantine Empire, and later Persian tradition idealised him as a just king.
