Greco-Persian Wars
The Greco-Persian Wars were a series of conflicts in the fifth century BCE between the Achaemenid Empire and Greek city-states, including Athens and Sparta. Persian invasions of mainland Greece were repulsed at battles such as Marathon, Salamis and Plataea. For the Achaemenid Empire the wars marked the western limit of its expansion and shaped later Greek views of Persia.
