Greco-Roman world
The Greco-Roman world refers to the Mediterranean civilisation shaped by Greek culture and Roman rule in classical antiquity. Its trade networks, languages and ideas extended to neighbouring regions. The Aksumite Empire was closely connected to it through Red Sea commerce, using Greek in inscriptions and coinage and adopting Christianity, which linked Aksum to the wider Mediterranean.
