Ionian Revolt

499–493 BCE · 5th century BCE · Part of the Greco-Persian Wars

The Ionian Revolt was a rising of the Greek cities of Ionia and other parts of Asia Minor and Cyprus against Persian rule, from 499 to 493 BCE. Led at first by Aristagoras of Miletus and supported briefly by Athens and Eretria, it ended after the Persian naval victory at Lade and the sack of Miletus in 494 BCE. It led to the Persian invasions of Greece.
