Delian League
The Delian League was an alliance of Greek city-states founded in 478 BCE under Athenian leadership to continue the war against Persia, with its treasury first on the island of Delos. Members contributed ships or money, and Athens gradually turned the league into an empire, moving the treasury to Athens in 454 BCE. It was dissolved after Athens' defeat in the Peloponnesian War in 404 BCE.
