Asia Minor
Asia Minor is the historical name for the Anatolian peninsula, the western part of Asia corresponding to most of present-day Turkey. After the Seljuk victory at Manzikert in 1071, Turkish groups conquered and settled much of it. It became the base from which the Ottoman Empire arose at the end of the thirteenth century.
