Turkey
Turkey is a modern country occupying Anatolia and eastern Thrace. Its territory has been home to many ancient and medieval states, and accounts of the Assyrian Empire note the Old Assyrian merchant colony at Kanesh in central Anatolia. Accounts of the Afsharid Empire note that Nader Shah's empire at its height included portions of Iraq and Turkey before contracting rapidly after his death.
