Kanesh
Kanesh, modern Kültepe in Turkey, was an ancient city in central Anatolia. In the early second millennium BCE it hosted the most important Assyrian merchant colony, or karum. Thousands of cuneiform tablets found there document the trade in tin and textiles for Anatolian silver that underpinned early Assyrian power.
