Thrace
Thrace is a historical region of south-eastern Europe, bounded by the Balkan Mountains, the Black Sea, the Aegean and the Sea of Marmara, and now divided between Bulgaria, Greece and European Turkey. It was home to the Thracian peoples and the Odrysian kingdom before becoming a Roman province in 46 CE. Its position on the approaches to Constantinople made it a battleground for Byzantines, Bulgarians and Ottomans.
