Maritsa
The Maritsa, called Evros in Greek, Meriç in Turkish and Hebrus in antiquity, is the longest river lying wholly in the Balkans, about 480 kilometres long. It rises in the Rila mountains of Bulgaria, flows through the Thracian plain past Plovdiv and Edirne, and forms the border between Greece and Turkey before entering the Aegean near the ancient city of Aenus, modern Enez.
