Aegean
The Aegean is the arm of the Mediterranean Sea between Greece and Anatolia, scattered with numerous islands. It was a crossroads of trade and conflict for many empires, from the Hittite Empire's western contacts to the Achaemenid Empire's wars with the Greek cities. It later formed a core space for the Macedonian and Seleucid empires and was contested by the Italian Empire in the twentieth century.
