Ionia
Ionia was the central part of the western coast of Anatolia, settled by Ionian Greeks and home to cities such as Miletus and Ephesus. After Cyrus the Great defeated Croesus of Lydia in 546 BCE, the Ionian cities came under Achaemenid rule. Their later revolt helped spark the Greco-Persian Wars.
