Ephesus
Ephesus was an ancient Greek city on the west coast of Anatolia, near modern Selçuk in Turkey, famed for its Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Under Rome it was the capital of the province of Asia and an early centre of Christianity. As its harbour silted up, life moved to the nearby hill of Ayasoluk, which the Aydinids took in the early 14th century.
