Sardis

Sardis was the capital of the kingdom of Lydia in western Anatolia. Cyrus the Great captured it in 546 BCE after defeating King Croesus, and it became a major Achaemenid administrative centre. According to the Achaemenid Empire profile, it was the western terminus of the Royal Road from Susa.
