Susa
Susa was an ancient city in south-western Iran, the capital of Elam and later an Achaemenid royal capital. It was the eastern terminus of the Royal Road and an important Achaemenid administrative centre. In the seventh century BCE it was sacked by the Assyrian king Ashurbanipal, an event linked to Assyrian campaigns against Elam.
