Sardinia
Sardinia is a large island in the western Mediterranean, west of the Italian peninsula. Carthage established control over much of it, using it as a source of grain, metals and soldiers. Accounts of the Punic Empire note that Rome seized Sardinia after the First Punic War, a loss that deepened the rivalry leading to the Second Punic War.
