Punic Empire

Also known as Carthaginian Empire, Punic

The Punic Empire, or Carthaginian Empire, was a maritime state centred on Carthage in present-day Tunisia, founded as a colony of Tyre and traditionally dated to 814 BCE. It became independent around 650 BCE and dominated trade and sea-lanes in the western Mediterranean, relying on a powerful navy and mercenary armies. It fought three Punic Wars against Rome and was destroyed in 146 BCE.
