Sardeshmukhi

Sardeshmukhi was an additional levy, traditionally reckoned at a tenth of revenue, claimed by the Maratha rulers on top of the chauth. It was justified as the due of a hereditary overlord and was collected from territories under Maratha influence. These levies financed both administration and military campaigns.
