Croesus

Also known as Croesus of Lydia

Croesus was the last king of Lydia in western Anatolia, ruling in the sixth century BCE and proverbial for his wealth. He was defeated by Cyrus the Great at the Battle of Thymbra in 546 BCE, after which Sardis was captured. His fall brought Lydia and the Ionian Greek cities under the Achaemenid Empire.
