Temple of Artemis

Also known as Artemision, Temple of Artemis at Ephesus

The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, the Artemision, was a great sanctuary of the goddess and one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. The marble temple of the 6th century BCE, partly paid for by King Croesus of Lydia, was burned by Herostratus in 356 BCE and rebuilt on an even larger scale. It was damaged by the Goths in the 3rd century CE, and only fragments remain.
