Cayster River
The Cayster, now the Küçük Menderes, is a river in western Turkey that flows into the Aegean near the ruins of Ephesus. The ancient city was founded near its mouth, but the silt the river carried steadily filled the harbour and pushed the coastline westwards, so that Ephesus was eventually left several kilometres inland and lost its role as a port.
