State
Cayor
Cayor was a Wolof kingdom in what is now western Senegal, one of the constituent states of the Jolof Empire. As Atlantic trade expanded in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, Cayor gained direct access to European goods and revenues. It broke away from Jolof in the sixteenth century, contributing to the empire's fragmentation.
