Battle of the Eurymedon

c. 466 BCE · 5th century BCE · Part of the Greco-Persian Wars

The Battle of the Eurymedon was a double victory won around 466 BCE by the Delian League under Cimon over the Persian Empire at the mouth of the Eurymedon river in Pamphylia. Cimon destroyed a Phoenician fleet and then defeated the Persian army on land the same day. The victory ended the Persian naval threat to the Aegean for years and strengthened Athens' hold over the league.
