Battle of Okehazama

1560 · 16th century

The Battle of Okehazama was fought in June 1560 in Owari Province, Japan, when Oda Nobunaga with a small force made a surprise attack on the much larger army of Imagawa Yoshimoto, which was resting during its march west. Yoshimoto was killed and the Imagawa never recovered. The victory made Nobunaga's reputation and allowed Tokugawa Ieyasu to break away from the Imagawa.
