Imagawa clan

The Imagawa were a Japanese samurai clan, a branch of the Ashikaga founded in the 13th century. From the 14th century they served as shugo governors of Suruga and later Tōtōmi, and in the Sengoku period they became powerful daimyo ruling from Sunpu. Their power peaked under Imagawa Yoshimoto but collapsed after his death at Okehazama in 1560, and Takeda Shingen and Tokugawa Ieyasu divided their lands by 1569.
