Hōjō Sōun
Hōjō Sōun, born Ise Moritoki, was a minor shogunal official with ties to the Imagawa who helped settle their succession dispute in Suruga after 1476. In the 1490s he seized Izu and Odawara castle, becoming one of the first Sengoku warlords. His son Ujitsuna adopted the Hōjō name, founding the Later Hōjō, who dominated eastern Japan.
