First Peloponnesian War

c. 460–445 BCE · 5th century BCE

The First Peloponnesian War was fought from about 460 to 445 BCE between Athens and its allies and the Peloponnesian League led by Sparta, together with Corinth and Thebes. Athens controlled Boeotia for a time after its victory at Oenophyta (457 BCE) but lost it at Coronea in 447; the Thirty Years' Peace of 446/445 BCE left both alliances intact.
