Peloponnesian League

The Peloponnesian League was an alliance of Greek city-states in the Peloponnese led by Sparta, formed in the sixth century BCE. It fought Athens and its allies in the Peloponnesian War. The exhaustion of the Greek city-states after these conflicts created an opening that Philip II exploited in building the Macedonian Empire.
