Battle of Scarpheia

146 BCE · 2nd century BCE · Part of the Achaean War

The Battle of Scarpheia was fought in 146 BCE near Scarpheia in eastern Locris, at the start of the Achaean War. The Roman commander Quintus Caecilius Metellus caught the Achaean army of Critolaus, which was retreating from the siege of Heraclea, and destroyed it. Critolaus disappeared in the defeat, and the remaining Achaean forces were crushed by Lucius Mummius near Corinth soon after.
