Battle of Scheut

1356 · 14th century · Part of the War of the Brabantine Succession

The Battle of Scheut was fought on 17 August 1356 at Scheut, near Anderlecht west of Brussels, during the War of the Brabantine Succession. Louis of Male, Count of Flanders, defeated the army of Duchess Joanna and Duke Wenceslaus of Brabant and occupied Brussels and other towns. Brussels was recaptured that October by a small force led by Everard t'Serclaes, and the Peace of Ath in 1357 left Antwerp to Flanders.
