Battle of Baesweiler

1371 · 14th century

The Battle of Baesweiler was fought on 22 August 1371 near Baesweiler, north-east of Aachen, between Duke Wenceslaus of Brabant and Duke William II of Jülich, allied with Edward of Guelders. Wenceslaus's army was defeated and he was captured, though Edward of Guelders was mortally wounded. The duke had to pay a heavy ransom, and the defeat weakened Brabant's standing in the Low Countries.
