Achaean War

146 BCE · 2nd century BCE

The Achaean War of 146 BCE was the conflict in which Rome crushed the Achaean League and its allies in southern Greece. After the league defied Roman demands, the consul Lucius Mummius defeated its army near Corinth and sacked the city. Greece then came under Roman control, and cities that had supported the Achaeans, such as Chalcis and Megalopolis, lost their independence.
