Achaea

Achaea is a region in the northern Peloponnese of Greece, along the southern shore of the Gulf of Corinth, with its chief city at Patras. In antiquity it held twelve small cities whose federation, the Achaean League, became a leading power in Greece in the 3rd century BCE. After 1205 it was the heart of the Frankish Principality of Achaea.
