Battle of Sokhoista

1545 · 16th century

The Battle of Sokhoista was fought in 1545 in Samtskhe, south-western Georgia, where an Ottoman army defeated a coalition of Georgian rulers led by King Bagrat III of Imereti. The Ottomans restored their ally, the atabeg of Samtskhe, and the defeat opened western Georgia to Ottoman dominance, confirmed by the Peace of Amasya ten years later.
