Peace of Amasya

1555 · 16th century · Also known as Treaty of Amasya · Part of the Ottoman–Safavid War (1532–1555)

The Peace of Amasya was the treaty concluded on 29 May 1555 between Suleiman the Magnificent and Shah Tahmasp I, ending the Ottoman–Safavid war of 1532–1555. It divided the disputed lands between the two empires: Baghdad and most of Iraq went to the Ottomans, while western Georgia, including Imereti, fell to the Ottoman sphere and eastern Georgia to the Safavid.
