Ottoman–Safavid War (1532–1555)
The Ottoman–Safavid War of 1532–1555 was fought between the Ottoman Empire of Suleiman the Magnificent and Safavid Persia under Tahmasp I. Suleiman led three campaigns into Persia and took Baghdad and much of Mesopotamia in 1534; the Peace of Amasya (1555), the first formal treaty between the two empires, left Iraq to the Ottomans and divided the Caucasus.
