Akhaltsikhe
Akhaltsikhe is a town in southern Georgia and the centre of the Samtskhe-Javakheti region. It was the seat of the Jaqeli atabegs of Samtskhe and, from 1628, of the Ottoman province of Childir, known for its slave market. Russia took it in 1828 and kept it under the Treaty of Adrianople. Its restored Rabati fortress dominates the town.
