Moscow
Moscow is the capital of Russia, which grew from a minor principality into the centre of the Russian state. Polish-Lithuanian forces occupied Moscow during the Time of Troubles in the early seventeenth century. Although Peter the Great moved the capital to St Petersburg, Moscow remained the economic and spiritual heart of the Russian Empire.
