State
Russian Empire
The Russian Empire was the state ruled by the Romanov dynasty from Peter the Great's proclamation of the empire in 1721 until the revolution of 1917. It expanded across eastern Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia and Siberia to become one of the largest empires in history. Its expansion into Central Asia also made it a strategic factor in the calculations of neighbouring powers, including the Sikh Empire.
