Tatars
Tatars is a name applied to various Turkic-speaking peoples of the Eurasian steppe, including the Crimean Tatars who raided and fought along the borders of eastern Europe. The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth both fought against Tatar raiders and drew on Tatar and Cossack traditions in developing its light cavalry. Accounts of the Commonwealth describe these frontier warrior cultures as an important military resource.
