Battle of Tablada

844 · 9th century

The Battle of Tablada was fought in November 844 near Seville, where the army of the Umayyad emir Abd al-Rahman II defeated Viking raiders who had sacked the city. Many of the Northmen were killed or captured and the survivors withdrew to their ships. The raid led the emirate to build a fleet and an arsenal at Seville to guard the coasts.
