Battle of Tali-Ihantala

1944 · 20th century · Part of the Continuation War

The Battle of Tali-Ihantala, fought from 25 June to 9 July 1944 north-east of Viipuri, was the largest battle ever fought in the Nordic countries. Finnish forces, supported by German anti-tank weapons and aircraft, halted the Soviet summer offensive on the Karelian Isthmus, which allowed Finland to negotiate an armistice in September 1944 without being occupied.
