Battle of Valea Albă

1476 · 15th century · Also known as Battle of Războieni

The Battle of Valea Albă, also called the Battle of Războieni, was fought on 26 July 1476 in north-eastern Moldavia, where the Ottoman sultan Mehmed II defeated the outnumbered army of Stephen the Great. Despite the victory, the Ottomans failed to take the fortresses of Suceava and Neamț, and disease, hunger and the approach of Hungarian forces forced Mehmed to withdraw.
