Beleheb' Kat

d. 1532 · 16th century · Also known as Belehé Qat

Beleheb' Kat was one of the two kings of the Kaqchikel Maya, ruling from Iximche in the Guatemalan highlands alongside Kaji' Imox. In 1524 the two kings received Pedro de Alvarado as an ally against the K'iche', and Iximche briefly became the first Spanish capital in Guatemala. Harsh Spanish demands drove the Kaqchikel to revolt, and Beleheb' Kat died in 1532 while subject to Spanish forced labour.
