Bitola
Bitola is a city in the Pelagonia plain of southern North Macedonia, near the Greek border and the ruins of the ancient city of Heraclea Lyncestis. Under Ottoman rule, as Monastir, it was a major administrative and military centre of the Balkans. Serbian forces defeated the Ottomans nearby in the Battle of Monastir in 1912, and it is now the country's second city.
