Boris II of Bulgaria

c. 931–977 · 10th century

Boris II (c. 931–977) was tsar of Bulgaria from 969 to 971, succeeding his father Peter I during the invasion of Sviatoslav of Kiev. When John I Tzimiskes captured Preslav in 971, Boris was taken to Constantinople, where he was stripped of his regalia, and eastern Bulgaria was annexed. He escaped in 977 but was killed by a Bulgarian border guard who did not recognise him.
